Where do I start?

“So Glenn, for the shoot tomorrow, you are going to be the DoP……….”

“Wtf?”

“In at the deep end baby!”

This is part of the conversation at the production meeting the night before the shoot, nothing like being thrown in the deep end and finding out if you really can swim.

Thankfully I think I can swim, maybe only doggy paddle with a bit of breast stoke thrown in but my head was definitely kept above water and with the help of Dawn, Wayne and Henry.

I am very proud of what we have produced.

I won’t lie, it was a very tough and long day, there were times I felt out of my comfort zone. I have plenty to learn from camera angles, lighting a scene, ensuring you have every shot you need and then some without causing the shoot to overrun. This is going to be one hell of a learning curve but damn it is enjoyable.

Below are two pieces of raw footage from the shoot.

A couple of scenes in and we are setting up for another shot when Henry looks at me and says ” You know what would be good on this shot, pull focus”, it was at this point it was confirmed I knew what I was doing

“Already ahead of you Hank…”

I would like to add a big thank you to Wayne Thompson, the producer for this shoot. Some of you might say “What does a producer do?”, well I think this short video demonstrates the valuable support and input a producer can give the DoP.
